More than 2,800 flights were canceled Tuesday by Southwest Airlines.
The U.S. Department of Transportation has announced that officials will look into the high number of flight cancellations. While several airlines have had high cancelation rates, Southwest has outpaced the rest, with 2,800 flights canceled from Tuesday’s schedule.
The Department stated, “USDOT is concerned by Southwest’s unacceptable rate of cancellations and delays & reports of lack of prompt customer service. The Department will examine whether cancellations were controllable and if Southwest is complying with its customer service plan.”
Severe winter weather was cited by Southwest as the cause for the reduction of its schedule to about one-third in the next few days.
President Biden stated, “Thousands of flights nationwide have been canceled around the holidays. Our Administration is working to ensure airlines are held accountable.”
